Enrollment as Doctoral Student

Applications for enrollment as a doctoral student are submitted via the online application portal KLIPS 2.0. After enrollment, you need to upload a “certificate of study progress” as proof of enrollment in your Docfile D-file documents folder.

As of August 1st 2024 this does not anymore apply to doctoral student in Chemistry.

Enrollment

Register in KLIPS 2.0 following these guidelines and submit an application for admission to doctoral studies in the correct doctoral subject (single degree program / Einfachstudiengang). The doctoral subject is indicated on the letter of admission that you received from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Submit all required documents (these are mostly identical to the documents you have already submitted in Docfile). The “Application for admission from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences” contains the “Confirmation of supervision”.

Your application documents will be checked by the Registrar's Office or International Office. If the documents are complete, you will be admitted to the doctoral study program. This admission must be accepted within the deadline. Then you need to enrol in due time, for this the letter of admission from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is required (“Approval”).

Proof of enrollment and mandatory enrollment

To provide proof of enrollment, download a certificate of study progress from KLIPS once you have enrolled. Deposit this certificate in your Docfile D file under Documents. You are obliged to enrol in the doctoral degree study program at the University of Cologne immediately after admission as a doctoral student by the Faculty. Enrollment is mandatory for the entire duration of the work on the doctoral project until the completion of the doctoral examinations (i.e. the thesis defense).
