Application Process (Doctoral Subject Chemistry only)

Applications for admission as a doctoral student to the Dr. rer. nat. doctoral program in the subject Chemistry are submitted via KLIPS 2.0 as of August 1st 2024

To apply, first compile all documents as PDF files, then register in KLIPS 2.0 and deposit all documents. Finally, inform the doctoral office by email (doctoral subject in the subject line) about the application. Only after you have been enrolled as doctoral student via KLIPS 2.0 a further account in Docfile will be created for you.

Documents required:

  • Form 'Application for Admission as a Doctoral Student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences' completely filled out and with all signatures (own signature, supervisor, if applicable further supervisor, coordinator graduate school of the department and if applicable coordinator further graduate school) (filename AaZ.pdf)
  • University entrance qualification (filename HZB.pdf)
  • Diploma, certificate, and transcript of the Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) (filename Bachelor-Dokumente.pdf)
  • Diploma, certificate, and transcript of the Master's degree (or equivalent degree) (filename Master-Dokumente.pdf)
  • Curriculum vitae (recommended) (filename CV.pdf)
  • Further documents, if applicable

Registration via the online application portal KLIPS 2.0

  • Register in KLIPS 2.0 following these guidelines
  • Submit an application for the doctoral studies in Chemistry (P1 Promotion Einfachstudiengang)

Email to the doctoral degree office

  • Inform the doctoral office by email (stating your doctoral subject Chemistry in the subject line) that you have applied for admission via KLIPS 2.0.

Further steps

  •  The doctoral office reviews your documents, the doctoral degree committee decides on the admission
  •  The Student Administration Office sends the letter of admission
  •  You accept the admission within the set deadline
  •  You enroll in due time

After enrollment only, registration in Docfile (the University of Cologne's doctoral administration system)

  • Only, after you are enrolled as doctoral student in Chemistry, a Docfile account will be created for you and you will be asked to complete the registration process in the Docfile sytem as well
