The following are examples of typical procedures without and with tenure track.
Important Notes
Evaluations: For an evaluation after, e.g., 3 years, this means the evaluation process, including submission of the self-report and presentation to the committee, already begins after 2 years!
Parental Leave: An extension of the tenure track process due to parental leave is generally possible but not automatic. Please contact us if needed.
W1 junior professorship without tenure track
The junior professorship without a tenure track enables young scholars to independently shape their research and teaching at an early stage and to qualify for a tenured professorship. It is typically limited to six years. After three years, an aptitude evaluation is conducted; if the evaluation is positive, the position is extended for an additional three years. Upon request, a tenure evaluation may also be conducted.
W1 junior professorship with tenure track
The W1 junior professorship with a tenure track offers young scholars attractive career prospects and, upon successful completion, leads to a tenured professorship. It is typically limited to six years and divided into two three-year phases. After the first phase, an aptitude evaluation is conducted; if the evaluation is positive, the professorship is extended. The final tenure evaluation determines whether the professorship is made permanent.
W2 professorship with tenure track
W2 professorships with tenure track allow more experienced researchers to focus specifically on qualifying for a tenured professorship. The process is limited to six years and concludes immediately upon the tenure evaluation; there is no separate aptitude evaluation.
