If you are working on a doctoral project in a working group at the Faculty of Medicine, admission is generally granted via the doctoral degree program IPMM. Responsible is the Doctoral Office of the Faculty of Medicine.
A switch to the doctoral program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) is only possible in justified exceptional cases for the doctoral subjects Biology, Computational Biology and Biochemistry - for projects with a clear natural science-based focus - and requires a recommendation from the IPMM doctoral committee.
In other exceptional cases, please contact the doctoral office of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Important: Early preparation is required. Please note the following steps:
- Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC):
A TAC proposal must already be submitted with the IPMM application, including a full-time professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This person will later be noted as a second reviewer on the application for admission to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. - TAC registration:
The TAC must be registered with the respective graduate school of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (GSfBS or CGSC) within 3 months of the start of the project. - Project Proposal & TAC minutes:
A Project Proposal and the minutes of a TAC meeting must be submitted no later than 6 months after the start of the project. - Application for admission on KLIPS:
After a positive recommendation by the IPMM committee, admission as a doctoral candidate in the doctoral program Biology (doctoral subject Biology or Computational Biology) or Biochemistry of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences must be applied for via KLIPS - at the latest 6 months after the start of the project or 4 weeks after the selection meeting. In addition to the mandatory documents according to KLIPS, the following documents must be submitted:- Letter of recommendation from the IPMM committee, TAC registration confirmation from the subject-specific graduate school (GSfBS / CGSC), TAC meeting minutes and project proposal (bundled in one PDF file).
Further information:
- Active membership in the respective graduate school of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is mandatory. The doctoral subject-specific graduate school is the GSfBS for the doctoral subjects Biology and Computational Biology; the CGSC for the doctoral subject Biochemistry.
- For doctoral projects with professors who are members of both faculties, the regular admission procedure is sufficient.
