Examiners

As a rule, the examination committee consists of two reviewers as examiners.

Chair

In addition, a professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences who is employed full-time at the University of Cologne must participate as chair. He or she must belong to another institute (in the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science: alternatively, or be authorized to supervise another doctoral subject) than the advisor or the doctoral candidate, and may not be a cooperation partner in connection with this doctoral project (all external advisers are assigned to an institute within the faculty). He or she chairs the defense and ensures that the examination is conducted properly. The chair sends the minutes as a PDF file to the doctoral office by email as soon as possible after the defense.

Minute taker

The minute taker must hold a doctorate in a mathematical or scientific subject and be employed at the University of Cologne or the doctoral candidate's research institution. He or she takes the minutes during the examination. He or she does not ask any examination questions.
